Maryville students pick up laptops, iPads for school

(WBIR-Maryville) When school starts next month, every student attending Maryville City Schools will have a laptop or tablet to help them with their school work.

The school system is providing the devices, and started handing them out on Wednesday.

The technology is part of an initiative the district calls iREACH. The goal is to move the district from paper-based learning to digital learning.

Evacuation affected mail delivery, can be picked up today

(WBIR-Maryville) The train derailment, fire, and evacuation in Blount County on Thursday meant the U.S. Post Office couldn't deliver mail to some customers in the affected area.

Post office officials says people can pick up their mail on Friday at the Maryville Post Office, located at 226 Keller Lane, by 5:30 p.m. Friday.

New Alcoa High School ready for students

(WBIR-Alcoa) When 600 students at one local high school head back to class in July, they'll be doing so in a brand new building!

10News got a tour of the new Alcoa High School Tuesday morning.

The $33 million dollar building is set to open with the new school year. It's state-of-the art and has been in the works for three years.

Two men charged with stealing tools from truck with dead man inside

(WBIR) Two Blount County men are facing charges after authorities said they stole items from a dead Knoxville man's truck and didn't report finding his body.

Charges dropped in horse soring case against Blount Co. trainer

(WBIR) A Blount county man accused of horse soring is no longer facing charges. The Blount County Circuit Court Clerk confirmed charges against Larry Jo Wheelon were dropped Monday.

In April of 2013, officials searched Wheelon's property and seized 19 horses. Authorities said then they found evidence of soring and the horses were hurt.

A judge earlier this week ruled that search was "tainted."
