Kids can't buy tobacco products, but in Tennessee children as young as 9 are working in tobacco fields and suffering symptoms consistent with acute nicotine poisoning, according to a report by an international human rights group.

IceCream Floats a company serving frozen novelty ice cream to the boating community, will return for a second Memorial Day weekend on Fort Loudon Lake/Tennessee River.

Garren and Lyschel Burket, boaters in the East Tennessee area for 9 years, saw a need to provide frozen deliciousness to boaters while hanging out in their floaties. IceCream Floats, LLC offers “ice cream with a mission” as the servers on board will be students and individuals raising money to take mission trips and support nonprofit organizations.

Tomato Head closes Maryville branch, moving to new West Knoxvile location

Tomato Head's Maryville branch served it last dish on Saturday.

According to its manager, Tomato Head is closing its Maryville location and will be moving to a new West Knoxville store. The new location will be at the Gallery Shopping Center off Kingston Pike. Tomato Head will replace the Silver Spoon American Cafe.

On Sunday, workers began the moving process. Workers said they are moving some of the kitchen utensils to the new location. All employees at the Maryville restaurant received job offers at the West Knoxville location.

Back Yard Burgers says Knoxville locations not affected by bankruptcy

The two Back Yard Burgers locations in Knoxville say they are not in danger of closing after the company declared bankruptcy on Wednesday. Representatives with the company say the West Knox County and Maryville locations are franchise-owned, and will stay open.

The family-owned franchise has been operating in Knoxville since 1987.

Some locations in other parts of Tennessee and in other states have announced they are closing.

Townsend motel shut down, safety and health violations

City officials shut down a motel, "The Family Inns of America," in Townsend for health and safety violations on Friday.

The fire marshal and city codes inspector examined the 40 unit building on Tuesday and found several health and safety violations.

Officials said the motel's roof leaks, mold is rampant throughout the building and the smoke detectors do not work.

Authorities said the Health Department and Convention and Visitor's Bureau have received several complaints about the motel.

Blount Co. manufacturer is expanding

Blount Co. manufacturer is expanding

An East Tennessee manufacturer is adding a new production line and expanding its facility.

Aesseal is marking 20 years in the community with a $3.3 million expansion at its Rockford location.

The company says the project will add 15,000 square feet to the site. Construction will start immediately.

Aesseal manufactures mechanical seals, which are environmental containment products used on all types of rotating equipment in process industries.

The company first came to Blount County in 2008.
