Maryville nursing home considers relocation

A Maryville nursing home forced to close in February plans to move to Louisville and reopen.

Colonial Hills Nursing Center had to close after losing its Medicare and Medicaid contracts as a result of six violations with the Tennessee Department of Health.

Life Care Centers of America, which operates the nursing home, announced Monday that it plans to relocate to Louisville and reopen, if an application for certificate of need is approved.

The proposed location is at 1965 Stewart Lane in Louisville.

Other changes will be part of the process as well.

"Since the facility will be built in a new site, it is expected to open with a new name, yet to be decided, and with a mission of serving all of Blount County and the surrounding area," said Beecher Hunter, president of Life Care Centers of America.

The relocation project is predicted to cost more than $21 million and bring in 175.

222 jobs were lost when the facility in Maryville closed.

Life Care Centers of America plans to file the certificate of need this week. The request will seek a license for 120 beds.

Each private room will include its own shower and oxygen and vacuum services for each bed.

Life Care Centers of America said it plans to have a full-time doctor on the premises.

The building also will offer rehabilitation services, including a 4,000-square-foot gym with state-of-the-art equipment, a physical therapy courtyard and a putting green.

A team of physical, occupational and speech therapists will work Patients will also enjoy homelike amenities.

Other plans for the building include a library, private dining room for family gatherings, a beauty shop, four courtyards and an ice cream shop.
