Support pours in for Blount County church after fatal crash

Some members of Cedar Grove Baptist Church spent Thursday afternoon writing thank-you notes.

They've had to order new cards in the past few weeks simply to keep up with their responses to the dozens of cards, condolence letters and donations they've received recently.

"That's one of the things that has helped us - so many people are thinking about Cedar Grove Baptist Church now who didn't even know where we were before," Pastor Bob Lynch said.

Many neighborhoods across East Tennessee participated in National Night Out. It's a program designed for neighbors to get together and meet each other, while getting familiar with police officers.

Tuesday, Target teamed up with the Maryville Police Department for a night of fun and food, information tables, brochures, even a K-9 demonstration were on hand to help the public learn more about the police department.

Celebration was in the air Friday night in Blount County as football fans cheered on their teams and their success in the classroom.

Before Heritage took the field against William Blount, the school district that is home to both of them thanked students and teachers for some new statewide recognition.

Blount County is one of just 21 districts in Tennessee that achieved exemplary status. That means student performance has gone up significantly under the state's new system of accountability.
