Elderly Maryville couple are victims of home invasion

Maryville police continue to investigate the home invasion of an elderly couple. Major Greg Cooke with the Maryville Police Department says that about 8 pm Wednesday night a man knocked on the door of the couple's residence on the 2500 block of Sevierville road.

When the 89-year-old woman answered the door, the suspect forced his way into the home.  He asked the woman if anyone else was in the house and then went to the bedroom and demanded money from the 88-year-old man.  They couple gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money.

A couple of teenage girls who escaped from a residential treatment center in Blount County were recaptured after the quick thinking of a man who lived nearby.

According to Sheriff James Berrong, the two girls, ages 15 and 17, were in staying at the Acadia Village Residential Center on Jones Bend Road.  Monday evening around 8:30, the girls set of a fire alarm as a distraction and took off.

Police: Drunk driver slams into Alcoa gas station, injuring one

Alcoa Police have charged a Maryville man with DUI after he slammed his car into a gas station on Thursday morning.

Investigators say Richard Doyle, 51, was pulling into the Marathon gas station on Louisville Road when he hit the gas instead of the brake.  Doyle is accused of driving through a window at the front of the store.

A customer sitting in a booth inside was showered with glass, and had to be taken to the hospital for stitches. Officers said he had several cuts on his side, arms, and hands.

Former Blount Co. sheriff's deputy pleads guilty to murder

A man who used to be a Blount County sheriff's deputy is admitting he killed his wife.

As part of his plea deal, Danny Brewer has agreed to serve 15 years in prison. The courts finalized his deal on Thursday.

Brewer shot and killed his wife Jennifer last September. Deputies found her at Williamsburg Terrace Apartments.

Brewer's plea deal saved him from a trial later this month.

Convicted Maryville pain clinic operator arrested in Florida

U.S. Marshals have arrested the owner of a Maryville pain clinic who has been on the run since October 2.

Tamral Guzman failed to appear at her federal trial on drug-related and money laundering charges.  A jury convicted her, despite her absence.

Authorities say they've been tracking Guzman since she fled Maryville to Florida, where most of her family live.

Guzman was arrested without incident Wednesday morning as she walked on a boardwalk in Hollywood, Florida.

8 air conditioning units stolen in Maryville

Whole air conditioning units are disappearing in Maryville.

According to the Maryville Police Department, AC units started vanishing in July. However, the thieves have been extra busy the past few weeks according to officers.

In three months, eight units have been stolen in city limits. The criminals are targeting businesses and homes.

AC repairmen said thieves cash the equipment in at scrap yards and receive anywhere from $50 to $75 per unit.

14 pit bulls surrendered by Blount County rescue

A Blount County pit bull rescue voluntarily surrendered 14 dogs Tuesday.

In July, Angela Burruss opened Double A Pit Bull Rescue in Greenback.

Blount County animal officials visited the rescue Monday, and they said they found empty water bowls and dogs living in small crates.

Burruss tells 10News she gave the pit bulls water Monday morning prior to the visit.  Also, she believes the cages are the proper size and said the dogs receive exercise daily.
