A man hurt in a crash on Alcoa Highway that killed his son is still in critical condition, according to Alcoa police.

Rural Metro took Joseph Eatherly, 61, of Oak Ridge to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Officials pronounced Eatherly's 35-year-old son, Eric, of Chattanooga dead at the scene.

Officers said Joseph Eatherly was trying to make a U-turn near the Airport Hilton when a Ford Escape crashed into his car just before 6:40 a.m. Monday.

The driver of the Escape, 48-year-old Beth Beard, was also hurt and transported to UT Medical Center, but she's expected to be okay.

Investigators said Joseph and Eric Eatherly weren't wearing seat belts.

Alcoa police said they're still investigating the crash.
