A 71-year-old Maryville man is hospitalized with significant injuries after he was shot in the chest at his home early Wednesday morning.

Police arrived at the house on Waller Avenue shortly after 2:40 a.m. While inspecting the house, officers found an open basement door and a broken window.

Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp said officials found the homeowner, Garry Kahn, with a gunshot wound in his chest at the top of the stairs.

He was taken to UT Medical Center where he was in serious condition.

Chief Crisp said that while there were signs of a break-in, it appears to be an isolated incident, but would not go into any details about the investigation.
