New Alcoa High School ready for students

(WBIR-Alcoa) When 600 students at one local high school head back to class in July, they'll be doing so in a brand new building!

10News got a tour of the new Alcoa High School Tuesday morning.

The $33 million dollar building is set to open with the new school year. It's state-of-the art and has been in the works for three years.

"I hope that it gives a great foundation for our students as they start the next level of education. Where as they start the next level in their life, period. Alcoa High School, we always pride ourselves on being a smaller school with a great home community feeling," said principal Becky Stone.

Classes start for Alcoa Schools on July 30th.

With the completion of the new building, which is on property adjacent to the old one, Alcoa City Schools will move to a four-school system.

The existing elementary schools will hold students in kindergarten through second grade.

The existing middle school will hold third, fourth and fifth graders.

The old high school will hold sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

And 9th-12th graders will be in the new building.
