Maryville family's baby announcement video goes viral

(WBIR) A Maryville family has been surprised to see one of their YouTube videos go viral.

Hilary and Tim Barrett and their daughters, 11-year-old Harleigh and eight-year-old Christina, were blown away to see more than 900,000 views (as of Saturday night) after posting the video less than three weeks ago.

In the video, the parents train their cell phone camera on their two girls, who each open a custom-decorated cookie cake. One read, "Big sister," the other said, "Big sister again."

Car hits pedestrian in Blount Co.

A car hit a pedestrian in Blount County Friday morning.

Blount County dispatch confirmed the incident happened on Michelle Drive off Miser School Road at about 6:55 a.m. No word on the extent of the injuries.

Firefighter injured fighting Walland cabin fire

A Blount County firefighter was treated for a sprained ankle after responding to a cabin fire late Monday morning.

Blount County firefighters responded to a cabin fire at 1008 Loop Road in Walland just before 11 a.m.

A dispatcher said the fire started in the chimney and spread to the attic. Firefighters had to call for additional manpower shortly after noon.

Controlled burns scheduled for Cades Cove

Rangers in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will begin a series of controlled burns in Cades Cove as soon as next week.

Fire officials plan controlled burns in some Cades Cove fields starting in early November. The fires will continue off and on through the rest of the month.

Police: Pretend doctor lured woman to hotel room

Investigators said a North Carolina man pretended to be a doctor to lure a woman to his hotel room.

According to Alcoa Police Department Detective Sergeant Kris Sanders, Robert Levan McCollum, Jr., 50 of Davidson, was arrested early Monday morning after an encounter with a woman at the Marriot Courtyard hotel.

The woman told investigators that she answered an ad on Craigslist for a job as an office assistant. McCollum claimed he was relocating to Alcoa and needed to hire someone to run his new office.

8-year-old killed in single-vehicle crash

(WBIR) An 8-year-old boy was killed Wednesday afternoon after an SUV ran off the road and hit several trees in Blount County.

It happened around 4 p.m. at the intersection of Mint Road and Walker School Road. Officers say 44-year-old Robin Hatcher was driving south on Mint Road when she lost control of her 2001 Mazda Tribute. The SUV ran off the side of the road and hit several trees along the ditch line before coming to a rest in the ditch.

Toddler climbs into toy machine, gets stuck
