Week 4 Player of the Week Winners

Catholic running back Nolan Coulter claims the Week 4 Offensive Player of the Week award. The senior led the Fighting Irish to a 33-10 district win over William Blount with 195 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

 

Coulter also eclipsed the 3,000 yard career rushing mark in that game. Catholic takes on Webb on Friday night in the Battle of the Bluff. You can watch the game on cable channel 10News2.

Newsmaker: Mountain Challenge 25th Anniversary

Maryville College is home to the oldest outdoor team building company in East Tennessee. Mountain Challenge has been around since 1987 benefiting area businesses and Maryville College students.

This year, Mountain Challenge marks its 25th anniversary with a special outdoor celebration on Sunday, September 23rd from 1 until 4 p.m.

"We thought this would be a great way to emphasize the importance of people being active and the importance of people being outside," said Mountain Challenge director Bruce Guillaume.

Second half strikes again; Vols lose to Gators at Neyland

Right up until the second half Saturday night, the incredible momentum that energized Knoxville for the past week seemed like it might be enough to carry the Tennessee Volunteers to a victory against the Florida Gators for the first time in eight meetings.

The Vols were up 14-10 in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 102,000.

 

But then the 2nd half happened to a team that's had some memorable 2nd half meltdowns in the past few years.

Then the Gators scored 27 points.

Week 2 Players of the Week

This week's top players of the week are from Sevier County and Maryville.

For the third week in a row, a Smoky Bear took one of the top spots.

You chose Sevier County's Dexter Robbins as the defensive player of the week. He beat out Jake Carideo of South Doyle, Webb's Todd Kelly and Powell's Devin Scott.

Robbins made 14 tackles and forced a fumble while helping the Smoky Bears pull out a 23-22 win over Jefferson County.

For the first time this season someone other than Luke Manning is the winner of our offensive player of the week award.

Heritage High School students start STEM program

Heritage High School students start STEM program

A group of ambitious Heritage High School students helped to start a STEM program that officially kicked off this school year.

STEM or Science Technology Engineering and Math is the buzz word in education in recent years and Heritage students didn't want to get left behind.

"I want to be a neurosurgeon," said Heritage Senior, CJ Williams. He is part of the group who helped to founded the STEM program.

Vols beat NC State 35-21

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Tyler Bray completed 27-of-41 passes for 333
yards and threw for two touchdowns to lead Tennessee to a 35-21 win over North
Carolina State on Friday.

Cordarrelle Patterson hauled in six balls for 93 yards and caught a touchdown
and added another score with a 67-yard run. Zach Rogers caught a 72-yard
touchdown and Rajion Neal carried the ball 22 times for 53 yards and a
touchdown for the Volunteers (1-0), who posted a disappointing 5-7
record last season.

It's Football Time in Tennessee!

 

It's the day Vol fans have been waiting for, the start of the 2012 football season.    

It's been a long offseason for the team having to dwell on a loss to Kentucky for the last eight months.

But today the Vols open up the season against NC State.

The arrived in Atlanta yesterday afternoon.

This is the first time in 73 years that the team has played a regular season game on a Friday.

The Vols will take on the Wolfpack tonight at the Georgia Dome at 7:30 p.m.

The game will be aired on ESPU-U.
