Superstorm Sandy turns Mt. LeConte into a winter wonderland

It's safe to say that one of the most beautiful places on earth right now is the top of Mt. LeConte in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Located at an elevation of 6400 feet, well over a foot of snow has already fallen on the mountain top, and it's still coming down.

Allyson Virden, one of the caretakers of the LeConte Lodge, maintains a blog where she is posting pictures and updates.

A man is dead after he crashed his motorcycle. The wreck happened at about 4:30 Wednesday afternoon on Highway 129 in Blount County about a mile from Highway 72.

THP says 68-year-old Frederick Wright of Sweetwater lost control while making a right-hand turn, went into a ditch, then overturned.

Some members of Cedar Grove Baptist Church spent Thursday afternoon writing thank-you notes.

They've had to order new cards in the past few weeks simply to keep up with their responses to the dozens of cards, condolence letters and donations they've received recently.

"That's one of the things that has helped us - so many people are thinking about Cedar Grove Baptist Church now who didn't even know where we were before," Pastor Bob Lynch said.

Mother's quest for "Amelia's Law" continues

The death of a Blount County teenager has sparked her family in to action, trying to prevent their nightmare from happening to someone else.

Thursday morning, Amanda Moore, the mother of 16-year-old Amelia Keown, spoke with State Senator Doug Overbey about getting "Amelia's Law" passed in Tennessee.

In August, Amelia Keown was killed in a head-on collision in Blount County.

The man who hit Keown had a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1998.

After an accident along Chapman Highway last weekend left two people dead and other injured, community members are calling for improvements along what they call a dangerous road.

2 motorcyclists flown by Lifestar from crash on the Dragon

Lifestar had to fly in a pair of motorcyclists hurt during a crash along Foothills Parkway in Blount County.

That call came in just before six o'clock Wednesday evening. It happened around two miles from the end of the parkway.

There's no word on their conditions.

Maryville man killed in early morning crash

Maryville man killed in early morning crash

A Maryville man was killed early Thursday morning in a one-vehicle accident in Blount County.

According to the fatality report issued by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Lewis C. Kirby, 56, was driving north on Montvale Hwy. around 3:30 am when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, partially ejecting Kirby from the vehicle.  The vehicle then swerve back across the road and hit two trees.  Kirby was thrown from the vehicle and killed.  The report says he was not wearing a seatbelt.
